I just installed the SilentDrive, and it’s sounds great! Remaining noise is the
whirr of my second (removable) hard-disk, and a very soft rumble of the enclosed
drive seeking. It also turned out that my Yamaha CRW-8424S CDR/RW drive is damn
noisy - I’ve taken it out for the moment, but I’m tempted to look at replacing
the fan inside it. I have the right size fan (I think) from when I was looking
to add a fan to my old Phillips CDR2600. All I need to find now is a
hot-swap IDE enclosure, so I can easily pull the removable drive when it’s not
in use, and I think I will have close to a silent PC. Awesome.
Also, I got to test-drive the Alfa Romeo 147
Selespeed this morning, which was a lot of fun - pretty car (I think,
anyway), quite nippy, and really nice interior. The selespeed thing is kind of
odd though - it’s basically an Automatic, except that you can choose when to
shift. If you don’t shift up, it will let you get up to 7000RPM or so, and then
shift for you. Same with slowing down - you’ll find yourself in 1st gear
eventually even without doing anything. Also, it’s a much quieter car (inside)
than my Golf - when the Golf is working hard you know about it, but this was
almost detached. Fun.
Oh - Finally, I got my Blogger stickers in the post today - thanks Ev & Co!
