Adaptation also gets a mention for Best Comedy Use Of Foley, for it’s excellent headlamp warning noise. Very reminiscent of Jacques Tati (Playtime and Mon Oncle in particular).

What *is* a Foley, anyway?

A foley is the thing they use to re-recording spot sound effects in the movie after it’s been shot. All the doors slamming, punches, footsteps and so on. The ‘Foley Artist’ (which is a credit you often see), is the person that does it.
Adaptation has some (for me anyway) tense scenes made painfully funny by extra SFX for the car the characters are in. It’s like the long passageway in Playtime, or the way David Lynch manages to get old slow people into action sequences.
